Competing in all four Grand Slam tournaments for the first time, the 19-year-old athlete is poised to achieve her highest year-end Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking, breaking into the Top 150.

The Rafa Nadal Academy athlete currently stands at No. 148 in the latest WTA rankings, a slight improvement from her previous No. 149 earlier this month. This achievement marks a progression since she debuted at No. 1180 in 2020.

Over the years, her journey has not been quite easy, but her growth as a tennis player was evident. She ranked 529th in 2021, 219th in 2022 and 205th in 2023, before securing her current standing this year.

One of the highlights of Eala’s season was her breakthrough in July, where she clinched twin titles at the W100 Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain, securing wins in both singles and doubles. This victory propelled her to a career-high No. 143.

Reflecting on her achievements, Eala shared on Instagram: “This year, I captured my biggest title yet (ITF W100) and broke into the top 150 in the world. To top it all off, I played all 4 Grand Slams! Baby Alex would be reaching for the stars to know she made it to all 4 majors before turning 20.”

Eala’s 2024 campaign concluded with a semifinal appearance at the ITF W100 27th Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge in Dubai. Facing top-seeded Polina Kudermetova of Russia, she showcased resilience but fell in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

As she enjoys the holidays with her family in the Philippines, Eala is already looking ahead to 2025, determined to build on her momentum and continue her ascent in women’s tennis.
